THE STORY OF DHARMA
How the idea of Dharma began
The story of Dharma Resort began in late 2019, on Bali Island. At that time, news of a global pandemic was just starting to circulate. Life still felt mostly normal, yet there was a quiet sense that change was coming.
Even before the world officially slowed down, a simple wish had already taken root: to create a home close to nature. It would be a place of calm, stillness and peace.
Finding home on Muhu Island
Later, we found that home in Rässa village, on Muhu Island in Estonia. Locals say it feels mythical – a place where time slows and the forest, birds and sea seem to whisper.
When we first arrived in spring 2020, the land felt simple and tender. There were soft blooms, gentle sunlight and the first warmth of the season. In that moment, we knew this was where we belonged.
From quiet dream to Dharma Resort
From spring 2020 until autumn 2022, we nurtured ideas and sketched quiet dreams. During this time, we let our vision grow slowly and deliberately.
Over time, we realized the beauty of this place was too special to keep only for ourselves. What began as a personal dream grew into something we wanted to share.
Finally, in summer 2025, Dharma Resort opened as a simple, quiet place to slow down, reflect and just be.
What “Dharma” means to us
The name “Dharma” is not easy to translate. At its heart, it means harmony with life, the world and ourselves. It is intention, integrity and alignment.
For us, Dharma is a gentle reminder to act thoughtfully, honor the balance around us and live with awareness and grace.
A sanctuary for body, mind and spirit
Dharma Resort is more than a place to stay. It is a small sanctuary for body, mind and spirit.
Here, thoughtful homes, seasonal food and spaces for yoga, art and cooking invite guests to explore, create and reconnect with themselves.
Two introverts behind Dharma Resort
Oh – how rude of us. However, after all this storytelling, we almost forgot to introduce ourselves.
Instead of a large team, we are two simple, introverted souls: Sven Kotkas, the spark of unexpected ideas, and Raymond Dharma, the hands that quietly bring them to life.
Together, we pour care and intention into every corner of Dharma Resort. If you are curious, step inside, pause for a while, and see what two introverts can create.
